Funny Ottawa

Maggie and I visited the Kwongs in Ottawa this past weekend. She had Friday off so I took the day off so that we would be able to visit to the nation's capital for a few days. We were initially thinking of doing some governmental work for one of Gina's friends, but in the end we did not have to so we had the whole weekend to relax. The timing was good too since Nen and JF had already moved out to the Rockies and this weekend happened to be the last weekend that they would be back to finish cleaning up the house before moving for good. (We only found out about that when we e-mailed the week before leaving.)

Part of the reason for visiting was a Seto tradition of showing off any new cars that we had purchased to the other family. Since Maggie had just gotten a Mazda 6 for her birthday, I figured that it would be a good time to go and visit, since as the last time we went was a couple of years ago. We drove up in the morning and arrived at the Inn a bit after lunch. After dropping our stuff off, we went to the Pataterie Hulloise for some poutine and a quick stop at Gatineau Park. The suggestion was to go to the lookout to see the scenery, except that we did not realize that the park roads are turned into cross country skiing trails in the wintertime! So we were only able to stare at the map and imagine what it would have been like before heading back. That night we stayed at the house for dinner and chatted all night long.

Saturday morning we got up late and headed out to brunch with the rest of the family. Maggie and I went to the parliament buildings for a tour of the house of commons, library, and senate. I don't think either of us had ever been inside before, but my memory sucks. I'm pretty sure I went in grade five - I just could not recall. Afterward, we headed out to Castlegarth for dinner upon Alan's recommendation before heading back and spending the rest of the night chatting again before going to bed.

Sunday morning we got up late, again, and headed out to Temple's Sugar Bush Restaurant for a pancake brunch before heading back home.
