Goodbye couch, goodbye.

Image
Maggie is slowly divesting herself of stuff from the apartment, and I have been moving boxes of stuff back to my parents' place over the past few weeks. We should get everything moved out before the end of the month when she is finished with school. Relaxing on the couch in front of the building. One of the items of furniture that we've given away was the leather couch that we got from Jeff's mom. We had no place to put it, and my cousin can use it for the kids as the seats are fairly low. Also, leather is pretty easy to clean and with three kids.. Enjoying the view from our couch on a nice spring morning. So this morning we moved the couch outside where it got picked up and put in a nice home where the couch will hopefully enjoy better use.

Maggie is in the paper!

Maggie's team won the 2015 Western’s Ideas for Sustainability and the Environment (WISE) competition and was featured on the university's newspaper .

The wedding website is back up.

I have been trying to figure out the best way to put our wedding website back online. A year ago, I purchased a virtual server and have been playing with it for a while now. It's great not to have to do any sort of maintenance on a computer I would need to access once a month. As such, I decided to try to host the website there. So for those of you who want to see what our old wedding website looked like, go to wedding.begghilos2.net !

London Birthday

Image
Since it was Maggie's birthday today, I figured that I would go out and surprise her at school with some flowers and chocolates. She had told me that there was a talk in the afternoon so I knew her schedule for the day. I had about a half an hour window to show up after her classes were done at 1200 and before the talk started at 1230. The plan was to show up at lunch time with the gifts. Fortunately, both were available in abundance as Valentine's day was around the corner. I ran some errands in the morning and was listening to the traffic reports to make sure that I would have no hindrance on the way to London. I had passed by the 401 and noticed that traffic was not moving on the westbound lanes. Unfortunately there was an accident in the middle of the city since 0700 which had brought the 401 to a standstill on the east end. I had hoped that by the time I had run my errands, that the accident would have been cleared out as any detour would probably take just as long a...

Punta Cana Day 8: Delay for Catamaran

I decided not to wake up for the sunrise this morning as it was raining and I had got up the two mornings before. I was not happy to learn afterward that the sun did actually appear over the horizon this morning for a glorious sunrise! Bah!   Well, I did get up in time for wind surfing lessons at 0930 but the winds were too calm for any lessons and I was told to check back an hour later. Our checkout time was 1100 so it was cutting it quite close. I was told however that the winds were good enough for Catamaran lessons so I grabbed Hwan and headed out to the boat.   The lesson was pretty straightforward. We were given a few rules to follow by: 1) keep your back to the wind. 2) do not turn into the wind. i.e. when turning turn away from the wind 3) switch seats to the other side of the boat when changing tack. i.e. to keep the weight on the side facing the wind. 4) when there are two people on the catamaran then both people must stay on the same side and...

Punta Cana Day 7: Wind Surfing Denied

Image
A group of us woke up early to watch the sun rise this morning. But after breakfast, I headed to my room to sleep. The plan was to try out some wind surfing. So I tasked Hwan to find out more information and call me. He called around 1330 after I had napped for a several hours telling me that we could not rent unless we had already booked a lesson and the next lesson was tomorrow. Bah! Hwan is painting the sunrise. When I got to the beach, I also inquired about the sail boat (catamaran) but it had the same limitation so we went kayaking instead.   Afterwards we threw the disc for a bit before going for a run down the beach and then playing a little bit of volleyball with a family and a bit of swimming.   There was a big Halloween party in the main court after the main (mouse, cat?) show but our group basically spent the evening in the bar drinking and chatting.

Punta Cana Day 6: Watching the Sunrise

Image
I got up early this morning to watch the sun rise. I had set my alarm to wake me at 0530 for the 0630 sunrise but my bowels woke me up at 0528. I think my digestive system has been gradually getting worse over the course of the week. Hopefully everything will get back to normal after I return.   The weather was warm and partially cloudy, which made for a pretty sky. Unfortunately the clouds were also at the horizon blocking the view of the sun. I could basically tell when the sun rose but I was unable to capture it. There is always tomorrow. A view from one of the units in our building. (Photo courtesy Hwan.) I spent the rest of the morning catching up on sleep and dealing with some stomach issues. Things have slowly gotten worse as the week progressed. I hope I recover quickly when I get back home. I did mange to make it to the beach in the afternoon. It was too hot for me, but after a quick dip in the ocean two things happened: the sun got blocked by a...
