West Coast!

Maggie and I are on our vacation on the west coast! Hopefully the weather will cooperate while we are here.

We woke up pretty early yesterday morning, five for me and five-thirty for Maggie, for our eight o'clock flight. My dad gave us a ride so we did not have to worry about calling a taxi or finding parking so that made the trip to the airport easier. I had checked us in the day before so we breezed through the check-in line and security and got to our gate in minutes. Even though we woke up early, I had to finish packing and spent some time finishing off the rest of our food for breakfast and some flight snacks, so we still only arrived an hour or so before our flight left. Still, we did not get much sleep the night before so I was half expecting to sleep on the plane. That did not happen. I ended up watching Moneyball, The Ides of March, and half of Wrath of the Titans before we landed in Vancouver. Maggie rewatched The Hunger Games, and Moneyball and also did not get a wink of sleep. This did however make the flight over seem to go by very quickly.

Getting our rental car on the other hand was a bit of a chore. Apparently there were a LOT of people who were renting from Budget and even after waiting in line ten minutes to get served, we still had to wait the better part of an hour before we got our vehicle.

The wait was worth it though, we ended up with a full sized sedan with GPS, which means that we did not actually have to bring our GPS unit.

We made it to Brad and Nancy's place just in time for lunch, where we sat outside and snacked on some cheese and sandwiches while we caught up on things. Afterward we went out for a little bit of shopping before heading back for a nap and then dinner. I was pretty exhausted so we went to bed soon after.

So I am used to the soft chimes that you hear in the neighborhood when the ice cream truck comes by. This year we already had three visits, mostly on cold or rainy moments of the day. This was in contrast to the infrequent visits to our old neighborhood when I was a child. In addition, we were too poor to really enjoy a cone of soft ice cream when it did show up so I never built up that sense of tradition that others would share with their children. As suck, when the truck does drive by, I don't rush out to grab a cone for my kids. Also, the pandemic does not help either. Still, maybe one day this summer we will indulge our kids. Maybe. Boot to the Head.

We were planning on going to the beach this morning but our plans got derailed when Serena stomped on Elsy's face and we had to wait for the bleeding to stop. It took so long that there was a chance we needed to go to the hospital. In the end, we thought it too risky to leave the house this morning lest the gusher started again, and so we set up the water table at home instead.

So it seems as if the link I had to the Polynesian Cultural Centre was flagged as a bad site. I double checked the link and, yup, I got a warning when I tried to visit it. I double checked if the link was changed and no, the search and Wikipedia still point to the same page so.. I just removed the link. We will see how the repost goes.
