Indochina Day 10: The food and first fitting in Hoi An

We got up a little late this morning and went out for brunch at Minh Hien Vegetarian Restaurant. There we tried some won tons and white roses which were tasty. I ordered the lemon shake, but was disappointed when I ended up with a lime shake instead. I have noticed that many of the Vietnamese places here will call something a lemon, but offer limes instead. Something to keep in mind the next time we ever visit. We finished off with a young rice ice cream. Our tour guides in Hanoi recommended that we try that out when we had a chance, so this was our chance and we tried it out. It was so tasty! It had a nice smooth texture and had a soothing and fragrant ricey taste to it. People who say that rice has no taste really should try fragrant rice with a little bit of water some time, not all rice needs to be doused in soy sauce!

The wall of Minh Hien Vegetarian Restaurant was full of manga.

We headed back to the hotel to rest and get cleaned up for our fitting that afternoon. Maggie took a nap and I ended up reading a side story from Erfworld one of the readers posted on the site. It was actually really good!

I figured that I could use my power converter to use the two prong outlet with my three prong laptop charger. Sweet!

We also noticed that there were ants everywhere in the room. Everywhere!

Our air conditioning stopped while Maggie was taking a nap. No matter what switch or plug I tried, I could not get it back up and running. Apparently the air conditioning tripped the circuit breaker downstairs, so I had to go down to inform the hotel staff of the situation and they would reset the breaker. Annoying!

Later in the afternoon, when it was a tad it cooler, we headed to the shop for our first fitting. The suits looked pretty nice and fit fairly well for the most part. A little tuck here, and a little pinch there and there you go, a nice and tailored fit! It is amazing how nice and well fitting tailored clothing can be, especially with high quality materials.

Standing in front of the food market where we had dinner. Looks a lot like the St. Lawrence Farmer's market.

After our fitting, we headed to the market where there are a number of food stalls. We wanted to try out the cao lau from one of the stalls made famous by Anthony Bourdain. We got stopped off at Hai Chien where we tried the cao lau and banh xeo, then a Ms Ha for some more cao lau and spring rolls, then finally to Be Na for even more cao lau. We were all cao laued out by the end.

Finally, we went to Cargo for some dessert. Maggie had a chocolate platter while I had a crepe. While the chocolate was tasty, the crepe was a little too thick and doughy for my tastes. The iced chocolate was nice to have though, considering how hot and humid it was that evening.
