Indochina Day 12: Free breakfast, more luggage, and flying a prop to Siem Reap
Woke up early and had breakfast at the hotel. Apparently we were staying at a B&B and I had forgotten that we had free breakfast here! Doh! No worries, at least we remembered and got to try it once, even if it was the last day.
The restaurant itself was basically one of the hotel porches which had five small tables, four of which only sat two people while the last could seat four. Makes sense considering that the only clientele are hotel patrons. The food came out before ordering: fruits, bread, pastries, and noodles. Maggie also ordered an omelet which altogether was more than enough food for the two of us.
After our meal, we headed back to the old town to look for a larger piece of luggage to carry our recently purchased suits and clothes. I had initially thought of having the clothes shipped overseas but we want to use some of this stuff in a couple of upcoming weddings and express post is a little pricey.
Our water pressure was extremely low this morning, and basically went down to a trickle while Maggie was showering. I went down to investigate and it seems as if they were having some issues with the water. Fifteen minutes she told me.
I also inquired about printing additional documents for our trip (like booking confirmations and visas). They turned on one of their computers and I plugged in my USB key to do print some of the documents. Normally I would use a flash card since I have programs on my USB but due to time constraints and lack of an SD card reader, I used my drive instead. This turned out to be a mistake, as I noticed something funny with one of the programs on the drive while I was printing. I put the observation to the back of my head while I did my work. After I plugged the USB drive back into my laptop, Security Essentials (Security Essentials!) immediately popped up and warned me of a potential threat. Seems like it was a password stealer. I am glad I took a complete backup of the drive this morning. *wipes drive*
Our trip to the airport in Da Nang was fairly uneventful. Since we got to the airport early, the kiosks for our actual flight was not even ready yet so we got into the economy line, but was told (after we got all the way through) that the line was only for domestic flights. Even then, the counters for our flight were still not open yet, so we sat down for a bit of lunch before getting back up. The line was non-existent when we got there so we flew through. (See what I did there?)
We discovered as we were being bused onto the tarmac that our plane was actually propeller driven! That explains the two hour flight time. The flight was twice as long and half as long as our flight from Bangkok to Hanoi. It was an interesting experience but fairly uneventful.
We got picked up from the airport by the hotel shuttle, which was actually a Lexus SUV. Our room was really nice and we got around to getting ourselves ready for the next day. It was a nice change after rather simple lodgings in Hoi An and Hanoi.

It had been a while since I was a passenger on one of these types of planes. |
