Los Angeles Day 12: Magic Morning

The Disneyland Magic Morning only takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. As we had the option of one Magic Morning with our ticket and this was the only day we would be at Disney in the morning for one of those days, we decided to take advantage of it today. (We were watching Fantasmic! last Thursday so thought that a Magic Morning that day would be too much for Elsy - and us for that matter.) Also, forcing ourselves to get up early in the morning was good training to get us accustomed to Eastern Time again.

In any case, it was harder getting Elsy up on time and after picking up breakfast for Maggie, we actually arrived after the Magic Morning was already finished. We were, however, still able to catch all of the rides we missed out in the past two visits to Disneyland: Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Peter Pan's Flight, and after lunch at the River Belle Terrace, a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat.

Elsy fell asleep while we were picking up some Dole Whip at the Tiki Juice Bar so instead of bringing Elsy into the Star Wars Launch Bay to get a picture with Darth Vader I went by myself. I probably could have carried her in, but it would have looked kind of funny carrying an unconscious toddler with me to take a picture with Darth Vader.

We left early and walked back to the parking lot instead of taking the tram. We wanted to be back at the house in time to pack and enjoy one final dinner with the family (sans William) before we headed out the next day. (During the week we virtually never saw the Kims.)

We were planning on going to the beach this morning but our plans got derailed when Serena stomped on Elsy's face and we had to wait for the bleeding to stop. It took so long that there was a chance we needed to go to the hospital. In the end, we thought it too risky to leave the house this morning lest the gusher started again, and so we set up the water table at home instead.

So I am used to the soft chimes that you hear in the neighborhood when the ice cream truck comes by. This year we already had three visits, mostly on cold or rainy moments of the day. This was in contrast to the infrequent visits to our old neighborhood when I was a child. In addition, we were too poor to really enjoy a cone of soft ice cream when it did show up so I never built up that sense of tradition that others would share with their children. As suck, when the truck does drive by, I don't rush out to grab a cone for my kids. Also, the pandemic does not help either. Still, maybe one day this summer we will indulge our kids. Maybe. Oh, but that was beside the point. Today I heard the ringing of a bell. This was not the sound I'm used to for an ice cream truck so I decided to investigate with Serena. Mostly vaxxed.

So most of the family is vaccinated now. Serena is the lone outlier, and that is due to her age. Because of that, we have decided to keep her with my parents and not send her to daycare anymore until she gets both of her shots. We had pulled her out when Omicron hit this winter and was pretty hard when we tried keeping her at home, but now that Maggie is back at work we had to go back to sending her to my parents. This situation may be the norm for a while as the under five trials for the Pfizer vaccine have not gone very well. She does not really know much about what she is missing, but she really needs to build up those social skills and daycare is a great place for learning to communicate with her peers, whether physically, or virally. But with cases at the daycare every couple of weeks or so, we figure that it is best to wait just a little bit longer..
