Los Angeles Day 7: Fantasmic!
Maggie had already reserved a dinner and show for Fantasmic! a week ago at the Hungry Bear so we decided to try to sleep in a little this morning and head to Disneyland after lunch.
We went out to pick up some healthy food but there was some sort of event and the whole street was shut down for pedestrian traffic. We ended up picking up food from Jack In The Box instead. The food was pretty good, and we ended up eating it in the Disneyland parking lot before heading into the park.
After our experience the first time we were at Disneyland on Monday, we decided to check out a few of the rides we didn't go on, like the Casey Jr. Circus Train, or the Storybook Land Canal Boats. Our timing at the boat ride was serendipitous as we were able to watch the Pixar Parade while we were waiting in line for the ride. Something to consider for the next visit at Disneyland.
We also were able to catch a show of Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, although I realized later that the show was more for the kids who took part in the training as well as their families rather than random folk like me, but it still put a smile on my face.
We grabbed our dinner from the Hungry Bear before locking our stroller down and taking a ride on the Disneyland Railroad around the park as our last trip was cut short. The train ride was delayed a number of times, but we were able to get back to the viewing area with a little time to spare before the show.
We noticed that the area where we had parked our stroller was completely cleared of strollers. Well, completely cleared except for ours. As we had locked our stroller to the fence, they were unable to move it and had put it on the other side of the fence where the shrubs were. We were told that we were not supposed to do that as it was not a designated stroller parking area. Whoops.
We sat down in the preferred viewing area and watched Fantasmic! Elsy got scared a number of times by some of the loud effects, but handled the show pretty well. We decided to stay to watch the fireworks as well, but this is when Elsy started to lose it. The explosions were so loud and close that we could feel the concussive force from each blast. Partway through the show, we decided to head out early as Elsy was not taking too well to the fireworks. The timing, unfortunately was not great as we had to stop off at the washroom on our way out. We finished our business after the fireworks ended and this is when the hordes of people began to head to the exits in earnest and we got caught up in the middle of the stream.
The tram cars were full and the number of people waiting in line was overflowing so we decided to walk to the parking lot instead. The trip only took fifteen minutes so it was good exercise and we still made it back faster than those waiting in line.
