Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor was one of the must see sights for me during our stay in Oahu. We were told to show up early to pick up tickets because it was a very popular (and free) attraction. We were a little late, due to the map leading us astray. (Who knew that they redirected lanes of traffic during rush hour?)

The weather, however, was very good. We were able to check out the displays and information booths detailing the events leading up to and during the attack at Pearl Harbor while we waited for our time to visit the USS Arizona Memorial.

The visit to the memorial itself was a fairly sombre one, but we were there long enough to take in the views and to see the wreck for ourselves. Next up we visited the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park as well as the Battleship Missouri Memorial. (Although we only had time for the guided tour and did not really get to see the ship.) Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit the other locations: The USS Oklahoma Memorial, The USS Utah Memorial, and the Pacific Aviation Museum. I think that would have taken us another day to go through.

That's me manning an naval gun at Pearl Harbor.
We had dinner at Alan Wong's. The food was really good (and expensive). We had told them that we were celebrating our honeymoon. Somehow that got translated to anniversary.

Our surprise anniversary cake at Alan Wong's.
What surprised us the most was that they were using iPads for their menus. Pretty expensive toys to use for menus methinks, but many other high end restaurants have started doing that as well..
