We actually had two events scheduled for today. The first was zip lining with the Just Live Zip Line Treetop Tour. I had never gone zip lining before, and I have always wanted to try it out. But there was one problem: I am afraid of heights. Things seemed okay as we climbed up the first ramp to the first platform, but when we got to the second one..
Maggie is enjoying herself.
Well let us just say that I was able to keep all of my cookies in place and I was still able to enjoy myself even though the ground was a very long way down, and there was nothing between my feet and the ground.
Maggie certainly enjoyed herself, and we both even tried some tricks as we got closer to the end of the tour, like going backwards, or going Superman style.
I do not feel so safe on these walking
bridges but Maggie seems to be enjoying this.
We then had lunch at Puka Dog down near Koloa. They were well known for their specially filled hot dog buns, but Maggie and I found it a little gimmicky and expensive. It was tasty though.

The night was reserved for a sunset dinner cruise along the Na'Pali Coast Sunset Cruise with Kauai Sea Tours. We waited for a while next to the office before boarding the ship so I took this time watching more chickens as they tried to cross the road. None made it. For some reason they kept turning back. Maggie on the other hand wanted to record my vacation beard for posterity.

were waiting for the boat.
We had been on a number of boat excursions already so we were pretty comfortable with riding on the catamaran. Maggie even got volunteered to show how the life vest was used.

As with any of these dinner boating excursions, there was unlimited alcoholic beverages, which I really should try to get money back for since I don't drink! The cruise itself was a fairly long affair, as we needed to head out from the south coast all the way around to the north coast and back. Along the way, we were able to see a number of whales and even some breaches! They were far away though so we were not able to get any good pictures.

The view of the coast was quite nice, and the captain gave us stories about the movies that were filmed in the area.

mountains overlooking the Na'Pali Coast.
The highlight of the trip occurred on the way back. We were followed by a pod of dolphins and the captain decided to let them follow up for several minutes. The dolphins swam under and beside the boat and were close enough that we could touch them if we got on the floor!
Finally, we stopped the boat to watch the sun set before continuing back to port.

I was able to get one of the crew members to take a picture of us with the sun setting and the moon rising.

The weather cooperated with us very nicely today, we certainly enjoyed it.
We were planning on going to the beach this morning but our plans got derailed when Serena stomped on Elsy's face and we had to wait for the bleeding to stop. It took so long that there was a chance we needed to go to the hospital. In the end, we thought it too risky to leave the house this morning lest the gusher started again, and so we set up the water table at home instead.
So I am used to the soft chimes that you hear in the neighborhood when the ice cream truck comes by. This year we already had three visits, mostly on cold or rainy moments of the day. This was in contrast to the infrequent visits to our old neighborhood when I was a child. In addition, we were too poor to really enjoy a cone of soft ice cream when it did show up so I never built up that sense of tradition that others would share with their children. As suck, when the truck does drive by, I don't rush out to grab a cone for my kids. Also, the pandemic does not help either. Still, maybe one day this summer we will indulge our kids. Maybe. Oh, but that was beside the point. Today I heard the ringing of a bell. This was not the sound I'm used to for an ice cream truck so I decided to investigate with Serena. As the truck drive by, I wondered to myself how such a small truck could be used to sell ice cream much less any kind of food. But then it dawned on me: this was not a food tru
So most of the family is vaccinated now. Serena is the lone outlier, and that is due to her age. Because of that, we have decided to keep her with my parents and not send her to daycare anymore until she gets both of her shots. We had pulled her out when Omicron hit this winter and was pretty hard when we tried keeping her at home, but now that Maggie is back at work we had to go back to sending her to my parents. This situation may be the norm for a while as the under five trials for the Pfizer vaccine have not gone very well. She does not really know much about what she is missing, but she really needs to build up those social skills and daycare is a great place for learning to communicate with her peers, whether physically, or virally. But with cases at the daycare every couple of weeks or so, we figure that it is best to wait just a little bit longer..
